Media Awareness Network is now MediaSmarts!

For the past year we’ve been hard at work conceptualizing a new brand to more clearly define who we are and what we do. Working with our Board of Directors and the wonderful creative team at Brandworks, who volunteered hours of their valuable time to this effort, we spent several months developing our new name and logo.

MediaSmarts / Habilomédias was our final choice because it succinctly gets to the core of what we’re all about: critical thinking about media. We live in a wired world today: kids are using a wide range of digital devices, and adults can’t keep up. So how can we make sure that our kids are safe, savvy and informed? In the same way we teach them street smarts we now need to teach them “media smarts”.

Although we have a new name, logo, and website, everything else about us remains the same: we’re still the same organization with the same team and the same vision, mission, and beliefs that have guided our work for the past 16 years and made us an internationally recognized Canadian centre for digital and media literacy.

We look forward to continuing our important work in empowering young people and adults with the knowledge and skills they need to maximize the potential of digital media.

Look around the new site and let us know what you think. Bear with us as we continue to update and develop it. If you notice anything that needs fixing, please email us at info@mediasmarts.ca.
