For 30 years, MediaSmarts has helped Canadians develop the skills they need to use, understand and engage with media critically and confidently.

Since 1996, we’ve worked with educators, parents, youth, researchers, community organizations, industry and government to respond to a media landscape that never stands still. From early conversations about advertising and media stereotypes to today’s challenges around AI, deepfakes, online hate and algorithmic influence, one thing has remained constant: digital media literacy is foundational to a healthy, inclusive and democratic society.

As we mark three decades of impact, we’re taking time to reflect on where we’ve been, celebrate the people who make this work possible and look ahead to what comes next.
