It is with sadness we note the passing on August 26 of Jacques Bensimon, a great champion for Canadian film and television. A gifted arts administrator and filmmaker, Jacques leaves a large legacy through his many contributions to Canada’s cultural life.
Jacques was a prolific filmmaker at the National Film Board (NFB) for many years before becoming Government Film Commissioner and NFB Chairperson, a role in which he excelled, leading the organization through a time of rebirth. He was also Director General of TFO, and in 2005 was awarded an Order of Canada for his dedication to Canadian film.
Jacques was kind enough to take the time from his busy schedule to participate on MediaSmarts’ Board of Directors during his tenure as NFB Chairperson. His contributions to our organization were many and he will be greatly missed by those Board members who were fortunate enough to have worked with him during his time with us.
