Breaking the Cycle of Youth Cyberbullying

Breaking the Cycle of Youth Cyberbullying (BTC) is an intervention research project designed and developed by MediaSmarts. This project aims to develop, pilot, adapt and disseminate a culturally safe, evidence-informed cyberbullying prevention program for youth ages 12 to 17 in schools and community settings across Canada. In this report, we detail the methodology and findings from a needs assessment conducted in March and April 2026 to better understand the experiences, concerns, and needs of youth in Canada regarding preventing and addressing cyberbullying and online violence.

Pay For Play

In this lesson, students discuss their experiences playing free online games and then learn the costs of these “free” games in the form of paying with money, sharing personal information or providing attention to advertising or branded content. Students then learn a variety of techniques for mitigating the risks and drawbacks of online games and communicate their learning by describing one of these techniques in video-game terms.

Cyber Choices (Grades 3-5)

Cyber Choices is an interactive game designed to help students in grades 3 to 5 develop the skills and habits they need to make safe and responsible choices online. Cyber Choices lets students explore four different stories that cover key issues such as making good choices about their own and others’ personal information, dealing with cyberbullying (as both a target and a witness) and managing online conflict.
