Wacky Media Songs: Reading Media
This lesson series contains discussion topics and extension activities for teachers to integrate the TVOKids Original series Wacky Media Songs. Mirror Image: Reflections on Gender and Media
From the tablet to the TV screen, media are a huge influence on how we see ourselves and our world. Nowhere, perhaps, is that more true than when it comes to gender: media provide many of our ideas of what “male” and “female” are, and many of our models of how to behave, what to avoid doing, and whom to emulate in order to play the role we’ve been assigned.
Wacky Media Songs: Making and Remixing

Facing the Music
I feel like such an old lady when I’m listening to the radio sometimes. When I’m in the car with my husband we often find ourselves having the I Can’t Believe What Kids Are Listening to These Days conversation, one that often ends with me hitting the OFF button in disgust.
See you on the flip side: Is your family going back to analog or are you digital all the way?
When I was a teen, I listened to CDs. I’m not sure when I made the switch from cassette tapes (which I played in the cutest, smallest little pink tape player while listening to Pop Goes the World) to CDs, but by the time I was in my early teens it was all CDs. That was the early nineties.
Tobacco Labels
In this lesson, students debate the effectiveness of health warning labels on tobacco products.
