Starting around age two, children can begin to explore media. The goal is to build healthy, guided habits.

There are four main strategies to help kids do that. We can:

Curate our kids’ media experiences;

Control who can access our kids and their data;

Co-view media with our kids;

and be our kids’ media Coaches.

Talking to kids about media violence

Talking to kids about violence in the media they consume – television, movies, video games, music and the Internet – can help them put media violence into perspective and perhaps diffuse some of its power. 

Spoiler Alert: Avoiding plot leaks in the digital age

I have a duality when it comes to spoilers in the media I consume. 

For movies, like anything in the Marvel universe, or Star Wars, I want to feel the shock, awe and surprise of whatever guest cameo, or plot point, unfolds in the moment.
