When Marlene Kane's sixteen-year-old son Andrew asked her to drive him to the nearby town of Midland last December, she was surprised to hear that he wanted to meet with someone he had met while playing the online game World of Warcraft – and even more surprised to learn that the person he was meeting was a 42-year-old mother of four from Texas. Experts on sexual solicitation of youth online were less shocked however. In fact, for them the only surprising thing was Lauri Price's sex. Everything else about the scenario – how they made contact, Price's openness about her age, Andrew's willingness to meet her, and the lack of deception about her intentions – all fit the evolving picture of how youth are sexually exploited online.

Intellectual property - Anything that comes into being through invention or artistic creation. When an intellectual property is also real property, it is possible to own one but not the other – so that owning a painting (real property right) does not automatically give you the right to make copies of it (intellectual property right).

This lesson introduces students to the ways in which packaging is designed to attract kids.

Consultative Report: Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly being used in healthcare, including paediatric care. While AI has the potential to improve diagnosis, research and efficiency, it also raises important ethical questions about consent, privacy, trust and decision-making. Drawing on insights from youth aged 10–17 in a mixed-methods study led by Dr. Melissa McCradden, this report explores young people’s perspectives on the use of AI in paediatric healthcare and offers recommendations for integrating AI in ways that respect children’s digital rights. The report is accompanied by practical resources for healthcare practitioners, patients and families navigating the use of AI in healthcare.

Ottawa, February 15, 2012 – While Canadian educators believe that digital technologies can enrich students' learning, there are still significant challenges to overcome in making this happen – with one of the main barriers being students' lack of digital literacy skills. And school filters and policies that ban or restrict networked devices in the classroom take away the very opportunities young people need to develop digital literacy skills such as good judgment and responsible use.

Surely you've heard of Inspector Spacetime, the cult British TV series that's run (with interruptions) since 1962. It has a tremendously active, engaged fanbase that's created blogs, videos and music devoted to it. Oh, and one more thing -- it never existed. It was made up as a thirty-second gag on the sitcom Community, as a parody-cum-homage of Doctor Who.
