Quebec Competencies Chart - Tobacco Labels

In its early days, the internet was often spoken of as a free marketplace of ideas, where everyone’s views and thoughts could be shared and compete on an equal footing. Today it’s an essential tool for accessing information and services, but its value as a vehicle of civic engagement and debate has in many ways declined.

In a new survey, Vogue uncovered Gen Z’s current approach and expectations for consumerism, influencing and marketing. This is a generation that has grown up with ads in the palm of their hands. While we had to see them on television or in magazines, or hear ads on the radio when we were kids, our children are getting clips in between favourite YouTube videos or even while playing a game on an iPad.

Privilege is the relative benefit that a group enjoys as a result of the discrimination or oppression of other groups. When we think about racism and discrimination, we often envision acts of deliberate meanness or quantifiable oppression of a disadvantaged group – hurtful words, tasteless jokes, deliberate exclusion from work or school, acts of violence, and so on – but it can just as easily take the form of privileges given to members of a more advantaged group.
