Outcome Chart - Nova Scotia - English Language Arts Grade 1

Foundations of Language 

Overall Expectations: 

A1: Learners will apply listening, speaking and non-verbal communication skills and strategies to understand and communicate meaning for various audiences, purposes, and contexts. 

Specific Expectations: 

A1.1 Use listening strategies to understand oral communication. 

A1.2 Use oral and non-verbal communication strategies to interpret and contribute to the meaning of messages.

The Communications 11 course has the same Overall and Specific Expectations as the English Language Arts course, but is “different in terms of pace, scope, emphases and resources.”

Contemporary Canadian Studies 11

Overall Expectations: 

Learners will justify a response to a question relating to an issue in Canadian history.  

Specific Expectations: 

10.1: Formulate an inquiry question in relation to an issue in Canadian history

Life 11 

Overall Expectations: 

Learners will reflect on their emerging sense of self. 

Specific Expectations: 

Investigate personal interests, gifts, strengths, and skills  

Question how personal, community, and societal values shape identity 

Investigate relationships with self, family, community, and environment 

Analyse the influence of personal interests, gifts, strengths, skills, and values on career interests 

Social Literacy and Technology 11 

Specific Expectations: 

identify and demonstrate perspective taking 

demonstrate strategies to handle rejection, teasing, and bullying behaviour 

identify and apply, when appropriate, strategies to handle rumors and gossip 

identify and demonstrate appropriate ways to communicate with friends through phone calls, text messages and other social media 

demonstrate understanding of, and strategies to manage emotion regulation
