Practical and Applied Arts Overview
Many curricular expectations in Saskatchewan Practical and Applied Arts courses relate to media and digital literacy. The following excerpt from Practical and Applied Arts Handbook (2006) details how media and digital literacy have been integrated into the curriculum:
The Practical and Applied Arts are an integral part of the K-12 program of studies and play a significant role in developing the potential of all students. They contribute to attaining the Goals of Education for Saskatchewan, specifically by… understanding the way technology supports and constrains personal and societal endeavours and how it is shaping culture and society.
On the left menu you will find outcome charts containing media-related learning outcomes from the Practical and Applied Arts curriculum, with links to supporting resources on the MediaSmarts site. As many of our lessons can be adapted to suit different grade levels, specific lessons may be listed for more than one grade. Teachers should also note that individual lessons often satisfy a number of learning outcomes.
