Empathy is at the heart of ethics. In order to develop a sense of right and wrong that goes past just being afraid of punishment or hoping for a reward, we have to be able to put ourselves in another person’s shoes.

For the past year we’ve been hard at work conceptualizing a new brand to more clearly define who we are and what we do. Working with our Board of Directors and the wonderful creative team at Brandworks, who volunteered hours of their valuable time to this effort, we spent several months developing our new name and logo.

OTTAWA, May 29, 2019 – While Canadian youth think it’s important to speak up when they see hate online, only 10% frequently do so, according to a new research study conducted by MediaSmarts, Canada’s Centre for Digital and Media Literacy.

Ottawa, ON — February 9, 2026 — MediaSmarts has sent an open letter to 10 federal decision-makers, including the Prime Minister and senior Cabinet ministers, urging the Government of Canada to develop a National Strategy for Digital Media Literacy.
