Science

The Manitoba science curriculum states that “science is shaped by historical, political, economic, environmental, and societal factors” and that “scientific literacy equips learners to critically engage with information, make informed decisions, and address complex issues on both personal and societal levels.” Digital and media literacy expectations are mostly found in the Practical Science and Nature of Science strands.

Visual Arts

An important goal of the Manitoba Visual Arts curriculum to is the help students “mature into visually and artistically literate adults able to enjoy, participate fully in, and think critically about and within the evolving visual culture that surrounds and exerts influence in their lives.” As a result, digital media literacy expectations are found throughout the curriculum at all grade levels.

Clothing and Textiles

Overall Expectations:

GLO 2.2: Develop understanding of culture within clothing/textiles.

Specific Expectations:

5.2.2.1 Identify factors that influence clothing/ textile choices (e.g., family, peers, media, culture, role, environment, religious, social, ethical, economics).

Science Overview

The New Brunswick Science curriculum connects with digital and media literacy through attitudes "that support the responsible acquisition and application of scientific and technological knowledge to the mutual benefit of self, society and the environment." Relevant expectations are found in the attitudes of Appreciation of Science, Interest in Science, and Scientific Inquiry.

Big Idea: Digital Citizenship

Skill Descriptor:

Apply cybersecurity practices to hardening of computers.

Achievement Indicators:

    Ensure basic hardening of a device is implemented such as firewalls, anti-virus, passwords, updates, and zero-trust relationships

Science

According to the Newfoundland Elementary Science curriculum guide, “the aim of science education in the Atlantic provinces is to develop scientific literacy. Scientific literacy is an evolving combination of the science-related attitudes, skills, and knowledge students need to develop inquiry, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities; to become lifelong learners; and to maintain a sense of wonder about the world around them.

Career Development

The Manitoba Ministry of Education defines Career Development in this way:

The new realities of the contemporary workplace and the contemporary worker have changed our perception and use of the concept of career. Career development is now viewed as complex and multidimensional, involving growing through life and work - an interweaving of learning, experiencing, living, working, changing, and identifying and discovering pathways. Thus career development can be seen as the creation of an individual's life/work designs.
