Fine Arts Overview
Many curricular expectations in Alberta Fine Arts courses relate to digital media literacy. The following excerpts from are Fine Arts curriculum document on the LearnAlberta website:
“Through fine arts, students are empowered to discover themselves as artistic individuals and contributing members of society. [...] By fostering critical thinking, problem solving, and communication, fine arts provides students with the opportunity to make deeper connections across the Alberta curriculum. [...] Experiencing the diversity of the arts and artistic expression throughout history and within various cultures contributes to students’ awareness of and appreciation for diverse perspectives.”
For more information about digital media literacy connections in the Fine Arts curriculum, including links to supporting MediaSmarts resources, consult links for specific subjects and grade levels. As many of our lessons can be adapted to suit different grade levels, specific lessons may be listed for more than one grade.
