Aboriginal Studies
Alberta’s Aboriginal Studies curriculum “is intended to provide a conceptual framework for all learners to enhance understanding of the diverse Aboriginal cultures within their region, Canada and the world.” (Aboriginal Studies 10-20-30). Media literacy skills enable students to recognize and deconstruct bias, stereotyping, and ethnocentrism as it applies to media portrayals of Indigenous peoples, as well as understanding the economic forces that influence participation by Indigenous peoples in the media industry.

(Note: as many of our lessons can be adapted to suit different grade levels, specific lessons may be listed for more than one grade. Teachers should also note that individual lessons often satisfy a number of learning outcomes.)
