SCO 4: Respond literally, inferentially, and critically to the purpose, structure and characteristics of texts (narrative, expository, persuasive, poetry/lyrics, and visual/multimedia).

Strand: Wellness

Big Idea: Helpful and Harmful Choices

Skill Descriptor:

Describe the impacts of food, substance, and screen time use/misuse on health and well-being.  

Achievement Indicators:

Use decision-making and refusal skills to deal with pressures around food choice, harmful substance, and screen time.

Module 5: Personal Safety

Outcome:

Investigate the importance of personal safety to health and well-being.

Indicators:

(a) Identify potential risks to personal health and security as a result of overreliance on personal devices (e.g., hearing loss due to overuse of audio devices, injury to self and others due to distracted driving).

b. Examine traditional and contemporary visual, multimedia, oral and written texts that present different viewpoints and perspectives on issues related to identity and social responsibility.
