“Mean girl” stereotype not supported in new national cyberbullying study

Ottawa, ON (March 18, 2014) – New national research indicates that Canadian youth face a range of mean and cruel online behaviours with varying degrees of seriousness and impact – with girls more likely than boys to be the recipients.

When it comes to posting photos on social media, teens are anything but spontaneous, new study shows

Ottawa (April 19, 2017) – A new study released today by the not-for-profit organization MediaSmarts and researchers from The eQuality Project shows how teens carefully compose, select, and edit the photos they share on social media to build and maintain a consciously crafted image. The report To Share or Not to Share: How teens make privacy decisions about photos on social media reveals how teens decide what photos to share online and the pressure they feel to always post images that show them in the best possible light – while not standing out from the crowd.

New Canadian research shows youth are thinking critically about the impacts of artificial intelligence

OTTAWA – A new Canadian report from MediaSmarts, Canada’s not-for-profit centre for digital literacy, calls for more algorithmic literacy tools and resources which will give youth the knowledge they need to protect themselves and their information online.

OTTAWA, October 23, 2003 – Media Awareness Network (MNet) is proud to be the recipient of the Educational Internet Site of the Year Award presented during the North American Web Conference (NAWeb 2003) held this week at the University of New Brunswick in Frederiction, NB. The NAWeb 2003 Award honours MNet’s bilingual media education site – www.media-awareness.ca – for its innovation, design and contribution to education.
