MediaSmarts launches new program to teach Canadian youth to act ethically online

Ottawa, ON (October 1, 2013) – In recognition of Cyber Security Month, MediaSmarts—a Canadian centre for digital and media literacy—has launched a series of digital citizenship resources. Stay on the Path: Teaching Kids to be Safe and Ethical Online is a new program for parents and teachers to teach young people to be ethical online citizens.

MediaSmarts provides guidance to teens for living in a connected world

Ottawa, ON (November 5, 2015) MediaSmarts -- a Canadian centre for digital and media literacy -- today launched a new resource to help students transitioning onto high school navigate the digital dilemmas they may encounter in their online interactions and activities.

Teaching youth about marketing and consumerism focus of Media Literacy Week 2013

Ottawa (March, 2013) MediaSmarts and the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF) are pleased to announce that marketing and consumerism will be the focus of Canada’s eighth annual Media Literacy Week, to be held November 4-8, 2013.

The official theme of the week: “What’s Being Sold: Helping Kids Make Sense of Marketing Messages” , will encourage educators and parents to talk to children and teens about the marketing they encounter on a daily basis.
