Media components are found in all three goals of the Saskatchewan Arts Education curriculum: Creative/Productive, Critical/Responsive strand and Cultural/Historical.

The curriculum document Foundation for the Atlantic Canada English Language Arts Curriculum: Arts Education (2001) includes a section that demonstrates the complementary relationship between media literacy and arts education:
Television viewing generally drops during adolescence as young people start to spend more time socializing, doing schoolwork, and using other media, such as music, video games, computers and the Internet.
