  • Our history

MediaSmarts’ story is a collective one. Our impact has been shaped by former staff and board members, educators, partners, researchers, community leaders and youth across Canada who use our resources, collaborate with us and help bring digital media literacy to life in classrooms and communities.

To mark our 30th anniversary, we’re inviting members of our community to share a short testimonial about what MediaSmarts’ work has meant to them.

You can participate in one of two ways:

  • A short written quote (1–3 sentences), or
  • A short video (15–60 seconds, recorded on a phone or webcam)

You might reflect on how MediaSmarts’ resources have supported your work, the impact you’ve seen in your community or why digital media literacy matters for Canada’s future. Selected testimonials will be featured on our website, social media, newsletters and anniversary communications throughout the year.

Examples:

“Never has it been more critical for students to be digitally literate citizens; MediaSmarts provides everything an educator needs to get them there.” - Mario Mabrucco, Toronto-based educator and MediaSmarts Teacher Champion

“[MediaSmarts resources are] so important, timely, relevant and Canadian - thanks for this work and your ongoing advocacy.” -  Janet Bell, EdTech leadership consultant, via Twitter @janetbell

"Thank you, MediaSmarts, for developing these beautifully designed, comprehensive materials about media literacy. As a parent, I truly find them very helpful and valuable." - Mila Siliayeva, Parent and leader of the Media Literacy for Parents Project at Clearpoint Elementary School in Montreal

"(MediaSmarts is) an indispensable part of curriculum research and content development. I appreciate the plethora of resources and tools available... as well as the abundance of research-based information provided on the platform. Thank you for your continued support of students’ learning, understanding of media, and critical thinking." - Senior Education Consultant, Saskatchewan
