Music - Overview

Music is one of the most popular and powerful forms of media that kids and teens consume: more than half of Canadian teens say they would die without it, and nearly all consider it very important to their lives. [1]

It's not hard to see why: music offers a potent form of expression for the complex issues young people deal with as they pass through adolescence to adulthood: identity, self-esteem, sexuality, alienation and anger. Teens use music to help them define their identity, to give them comfort or escape when they're depressed, and to provide inspiration and motivation. [2]
