Science

The 2023 Science K-6 curriculum states that “the study of science allows students to nurture curiosity, ask and answer questions, explore scientific and technological concepts, and acquire knowledge and understanding of the world. Science provides a reliable basis for decision making and is essential in developing innovative ideas and solutions.

Arts Education

The Northwest Territories Department of Education, Culture and Employment adheres to the WNCP's Framework for Arts Education which contains a strong media education component. For Grades 1 to 9, the department follows the Saskatchewan curriculum for Arts Education.

Entrepreneurship

The Nova Scotia Entrepreneurship curriculum has numerous connections to media and digital literacy in the areas of digital ethics and technology.

Mathematics 6-8

Students in the Middle Block learn Mathematics “within the context of critical thinking, reasoning and justification, and problem solving.” Digital Media Literacy connections are found in the Statistics and Probability strand.

Young Canadians in a Wireless World Overview

Young Canadians in a Wireless World (YCWW) – formerly known as Young Canadians in Wired World –  is Canada’s longest running, and most comprehensive research study on young people’s attitudes and behaviours regarding the internet, surveying over 20,000 parents, teachers, and students since 2000.

Canadian Cable Systems Alliance

MediaSmarts was pleased to welcome the Canadian Cable Systems Alliance on board in 2017 as a Bronze Sponsor. This partnership has supported the creation of resources that teach young Canadians how to be ethical users of digital media.

Personal Wellness 9-12

In the High School Block, students learn to “make informed decisions, recognize personal health and growth, develop positive relationships, and be an advocate for inclusivity.” Connections to digital media literacy are found throughout the curriculum.
