Today is Safer Internet Day 2016 (February 9), and the theme is “play your part for a better internet”. To help you play your part, we’d like to share a new tip sheet by and for Canadian youths on how to make the Internet safer and better for everyone.
Last October, MediaSmarts and Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) hosted a two-day Digital Youth Summit on Cyber Citizenship and Cyber Security. During the event, we held a Speakers Corner and asked teens for tips on what they do to make the online world better for everyone. Their insightful responses helped to create our newest tip sheet: Be Respectful, Patient and Kind: How Youth are Building a Better World Online. This resource was produced in partnership with Facebook, Encounters with Canada, and ICTC.

Safer Internet Day is an internationally-recognized day that investigates and provides insight on how youths can stay up-to-date on online issues. At MediaSmarts, helping Canadian youths make wise online decisions is our top priority, and Safer Internet Day is an important opportunity to share our knowledge with youths, educators and the media. We invite you to share our tip sheet with your networks, and help make the internet better for everyone.
