CIRA increases support for digital and media literacy with a Gold Sponsorship of MediaSmarts
Ottawa, ON (May 7, 2013) – MediaSmarts: Canada’s Centre for Digital and Media Literacy is pleased to announce that the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) has increased its 2013 support to the organization to become a Gold-level sponsor.
“As a sponsor of MediaSmarts’ programs and initiatives since 2009, CIRA has shown great leadership in the promotion of digital and media literacy education in Canada, says Cathy Wing, Co-Executive Director of MediaSmarts. “We are delighted that CIRA has recognized the importance of our work through this new Gold sponsorship.”
Currently, CIRA is a leading partner of MediaSmarts’ landmark research study Young Canadians in a Wired World. The organizations have also partnered on a series of cyber security resources to raise awareness of Internet risks and the steps Canadians can take to minimize those risks.
“The development and implementation of programs that empower Canadian youth to remain safe online is important to CIRA,” says David Fowler, CIRA’s Director of Marketing and Communications. “Being a leading partner of MediaSmarts allows us to be part of the foundational education of the next generation of Internet users.”
Dedicated to providing parents and educators with the information and tools they need to help young people safely and effectively navigate today’s digital world, MediaSmarts works closely with its sponsors and partners to advance education around important issues such as cyberbullying, online hate, privacy and Internet safety.
