MediaSmarts interactive tutorial MyWorld has been recognized by the MEDEA Awards – an international competition for educational media – in the 'Highly Commended' category. MyWorld is the only entry from North America to be awarded this recognition. The 2011 awards were announced in Brussels on November 24.

In December 2009 Passport to the Internet was honoured by the MEDEA Awards in the 'Highly Commended' category. The MEDEA Awards is an international competition that encourages innovation and good practice in the use of media in education and recognizes and promotes excellence in the production and pedagogical design of media-rich learning resources.

In April 2006, the CyberPigs games, created by Idéeclic for MediaSmarts, were awarded a bronze Summit Creative Award in the youth Web site category. The Summit Creative Awards recognize and celebrate the creative accomplishments of small and medium sized advertising agencies and other creative companies throughout the world.

In February 2004, MediaSmarts was honoured as a global leader in Internet safety education by WiredSafety (www.wiredsafety.org). The WiredKids Excellence in Internet Awareness and Education Award is part of an international awards program established by U.S.-based WiredSafety.

In October 2003, MediaSmarts was the proud recipient of the Educational Internet Site of the Year Award presented during the North American Web Conference (NAWeb 2003). The NAWeb 2003 Award honours MediaSmarts’s bilingual media education site for its innovation, design and contribution to education.

In April 2001, MediaSmarts was the recipient of the prestigious CANARIE IWAY Award for Community Service, which recognized MediaSmarts’ pioneering leadership in the area of Internet literacy. The Awards recognize "frontier" technology and celebrate the exceptional achievements of visionaries in the field of advanced broadband innovation.

In December 2000, MediaSmarts was awarded its fourth NAWeb Best of the Web Award in the category of Best Educational Web Site, K-12. NAWeb is the annual conference of the World Wide Web Courseware Developers Association; and it recognizes outstanding achievement in the field of Web-based instruction.

In October 1999, the MediaSmarts received its third consecutive NAWeb Award, in the category of Best Educational Web Site, K-12. NAWeb is the annual conference of the World Wide Web Courseware Developers Association; and it recognizes outstanding achievement in the field of Web-based instruction.

In March 1999, MediaSmarts won the Canadian Race Relations Foundation’s inaugural Award of Excellence, honouring innovation and excellence in the field of race relations education. The prize was awarded in recognition of MediaSmarts’ extensive collection of online anti-racism education resources.

In October 1998, the MediaSmarts was honoured for the second time with NAWeb’s annual Best of the Web Award, in the category of Best Educational Web Site, K-12. NAWeb is the annual conference of the World Wide Web Courseware Developers Association; and it recognizes outstanding achievement in the field of Web-based instruction.

In June 1998, the MediaSmarts received an AMTEC Award of Excellence. The Association for Media and Technology in Education in Canada (AMTEC) recognizes outstanding achievement in educational multimedia.
This award, sponsored by Magic Lantern Communications, was presented to the MediaSmarts in June 1998, in recognition of its outstanding contribution to the promotion of media literacy in education.
