We want to encourage kids to form opinions about what they watch - to react to what they see on the screen. In this lesson, children begin to think about basic concepts - such as how audiences interpret meaning, and the constructed world of television and film.
In this lesson, students are introduced to concepts of gender identity and gender expression and learn about common portrayals of trans people in movies and TV shows.
Rating systems can be helpful when trying to choose appropriate movies, but with many different systems in use in Canada, they can also be very confusing. To help make sense of the differences, here’s an overview of all the systems currently in use.
This lesson introduces students to some of the myth-building techniques of television by comparing super heroes and super villains from television to heroes and villains in the real world and by conveying how violence and action are used to give power to characters.
